Astigmatic phase retrieval: an experimental demonstration.
We present the first experimental demonstration of the astigmatic phase retrieval technique, in which the diffracted wavefield is distorted by cylindrical curvature in two orthogonal directions. A charge-one vortex, a charge-two vortex, and a simple test image are all correctly reconstructed.
متن کاملExperimental demonstration of a two-phase population extinction hazard.
Population extinction is a fundamental biological process with applications to ecology, epidemiology, immunology, conservation biology and genetics. Although a monotonic relationship between initial population size and mean extinction time is predicted by virtually all theoretical models, attempts at empirical demonstration have been equivocal. We suggest that this anomaly is best explained wit...
متن کاملExperimental demonstration of Generalized Phase Contrast based Gaussian beam-shaper.
We report the first experimental demonstration of Gaussian beam-shaping based on the Generalized Phase Contrast (GPC) approach. We show that, when using a dynamic spatial light modulator (SLM), this approach can rapidly generate arbitrarily shaped beams. Moreover, we demonstrate that low-cost binary-phase optics fabricated using photolithography and chemical etching techniques can replace the S...
متن کاملExperimental Demonstration of Continuous Variable Cloning with Phase-Conjugate Inputs
We report the experimental demonstration of continuous variable cloning of phase conjugate coherent states as proposed by Cerf and Iblisdir (Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 247903 (2001)). In contrast to the proposal of Cerf and Iblisdir, the cloning transformation is accomplished using only linear optical components, homodyne detection and feedforward. Three clones are succesfully produced with fidelitie...
متن کاملExperimental demonstration of an acoustic magnifying hyperlens.
Acoustic metamaterials can manipulate sound waves in surprising ways, which include collimation, focusing, cloaking, sonic screening and extraordinary transmission. Recent theories suggested that imaging below the diffraction limit using passive elements can be realized by acoustic superlenses or magnifying hyperlenses. These could markedly enhance the capabilities in underwater sonar sensing, ...
